Pi Squared, a technology company based in Champaign, Illinois, recently announced the closure of their first capital raise. The raise was led by Polychain Capital and included a syndicate of investors such as ABCDE, Bloccelerate, Generative Ventures, Robot Ventures, and Samsung Next. Additionally, several angel investors joined the round, including Shumo Chu, Harish Devarajan, Justin Drake, and others. The company’s CEO, Grigore Roșu, a CS Professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, spoke about the company’s mission to revolutionize verifiable computing.
One of the key products powered by Pi Squared is the Universal Settlement Layer (USL). This architecture for modular blockchains is designed to enable universality in computations, provable correctness, minimal trust base, app interoperability, determinism, and reproducibility. The USL supports interoperability between different application modules and networks, promoting verifiable computing as the standard distributed computing paradigm. Pi Squared’s focus on correctness guarantees for generic computations while minimizing the trust base sets them apart in the industry.
According to Karthik Raju, a GP at Polychain Capital, Pi Squared’s proof of proof technology will have a transformative impact across Web3 and beyond. The company’s universal ZK circuit is expected to significantly increase the reach and applicability of Web3 for both builders and end users. The technology behind Pi Squared promises to enable the next generation of verifiable computing that is universal and scalable with an optimally minimal trust base.
Pi Squared will be presenting and exhibiting at various events around EthCC in Brussels from July 8th to 11th. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from CEO Grigore Roșu at Restaking & Infra Day on July 8th and L2con on July 9th. The company’s innovative approach to verifiable computing is expected to garner significant interest at these events.
Pi Squared, which stands for ZK proofs of mathematical proofs, utilizes ZK technology in a unique and correct-by-construction manner. Led by Grigore Roșu, the company’s team consists of researchers and founders with expertise in formal methods, blockchain, and AI/ML. Their focus on providing verifiable-computing correctness guarantees to all languages and VMs without the need for translation sets them apart in the industry.
